"I
once saw DA and the Hitmen play outdoors at Sonny Angel’s in
National City, and what they lost in presentation they made up for
in musicianship. The guitar-harmonica band has chops culled from
the ‘70s, and note for note, the Hitmen have got a solid feel. The
harp man can hold his own, and guitarist Paul Alvarado is one of
those surprise players who toils away in near-obscurity and, unless
his luck changes, possibly always will, Alvarado plays guitar like
the old school — stunning in his attack and with that long-winded,
full bodied sustain. That’s love, if you play guitar."
